Walmart plans to import more Cambodian products to US market in the near future

At the ASEAN-US special summit in Washington DC on Tuesday, Anbinh Phan, Representative of Walmart Company applauded Cambodia for achieving its new Free Trade Agreement and expressed interest in importing more Cambodian products, such as furniture, fruits, food and electronics. She promised expanded cooperation by strengthening partnerships in business and investment activities that will contribute to the creation of job opportunities for Cambodians, promote economic growth and reduce poverty. Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce, welcomed the interest shown by Walmart in expanding business with Cambodia. He also briefed on the recent achievements and efforts by the Ministry of Commerce in improving the business environment in Cambodia, such as negotiating new markets through free trade agreements, drafting laws and additional legal standards, as well as the continued modernisation of public services, streamlined procedures and trade facilitation. These measures have greatly facilitated better business and trade with Cambodia. Pen Sovicheat, spokesman of the Ministry of Commerce told Khmer Times that Walmart has not yet expressed interest in opening its store Cambodia, but the company imports a lot of goods from Cambodia.
