Cambodia’s National Assembly President Samdach Heng Samrin met with the President of the National Assembly of India Speaker Om Birla.
During the meeting Samrin urged India to expedite the establishment of Free Trade Agreement in order to boost bilateral trade between the two countries.
He also requested the Government of India to continue supporting the training of human resources in Cambodia and to cooperate in the conservation and restoration of cultural heritage especially in the restoration of the Bayon Temple of Preah Vihear, of which India is the co-chair of the ICC [Preah Vihear].
Birla told Samrin that Cambodia’s request would be considered by the government and promised to give a positive answer through the Ambassador to Cambodia.
Cambodian journalists covering the event also reported that Birla expressed his support for calls by Samrin for regular talks to be held between the leaders of the two countries to strengthened the historical relationship between Cambodia and India.
He said that India values the relationship between the two countries.
There are many Indian development projects in Cambodia, such as health, agriculture and technology, all of which have brought many benefits to the Cambodian people.
Samrin is leading a four-day working visit to India.
