Prime Minister Hun Sen urged all relevant parties in Cambodia to cooperate and maintain good macroeconomic stability.
The Prime Minister made the remark during the closing ceremony of the training course 2020-2021 and the opening ceremony of the training course 2022 for more than 2,000 students of the Royal School of Administration on the morning of June 13.
“We must be ready to accept the reality of the economic crisis, starting with Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war, so that we can work together to maintain macroeconomic stability, curb inflation and maintain the purchasing power of the riel,” said the Premier.
Mr Hun Sen said that the Cambodian economy is recovering after the Covid-19 pandemic, but it was not expected that the war between Russia and Ukraine would burden other countries.
“We must be prepared to accept the reality of the economic downturn, starting with COVID and starting the war in Ukraine,” he said. “This is something that we must work together to maintain good macroeconomic stability, curb inflation, maintain the purchasing power of the riel.”
He emphasized that Cambodia’s efforts to maintain macroeconomic stability, curb inflation, maintain the purchasing power of the riel must continue, especially to maintain high savings to cope with the current situation. The Premier acknowledged that the Cambodian economy is not at risk of collapse, in the first three months of 2022, Cambodia’s exports increased by 3 percent.
